6.3.2007 - Delays in delivery

Just to let you know that I will need to postpone the updates to xt-user until end of the month. I'm arranging a film festival and our Production Manager has suddenly retired due to personal reasons - meaning that her work must be divided between the rest of the production team.

Luckily things seem to work ok here, take care & see you in a few weeks.

Linux version download

Hi-

The link for the Linux demo doesn't work for me- is there another way of getting this?

Thanks...

GUI seems sluggish

Hi, I opted not to use XT 1.X on my last 2 computers running a variety of different hardware.  I don't believe I am in any way inept at configuring a DAW.  I have noticed, that, an issue which kept me from even considering XT is still very apparent in the beta 2.  I have noticed that interacting with any GUI element, especially the modular wiring aspects, will cause the cpu, or, nowadays, a core, to spike to full usage.  I use a systemtray tool called process explorer which can show your CPU usage in the systemtray.  If I move anything around I'll use up all of XTs resources.  It was the same on my last dual and single core AMD setup as it is with my current Core2quad setup.  I can't see any reason to move forward with your application when the very most basic of things, interacting with the GUI, seems so fundamentally flawed and computationally inefficient.  Have you even checked CPU usage when moving around elements?  Why does this keep getting overlooked?  Wiring stuff up doesnt cause the CPU to spike in Reaktor, Bidule, or Max/MSP, so I don't see why it should in EnergyXT.

Anyways, just thought I'd let you know, in case it has alluded you up until now.

Can you delete the "non-XT User Guide" that somebody has posted

Can you delete the "non-XT User Guide" that somebody has posted?

All highly amusing but a total pain for users in schools & colleges as the page just gets blocked/filtered by the network, and of course access to user guides is probably going to be at least one of the things that students will wnat to do!

Is there anyway you could 'vet' any posting before they are actually placed?

I'm digging it

In the words of Paul McCrane as Emil Antonowsky in Robocop..

 I LIKE IT! :D

As an Aside: The comment editor is clunky, if I could get a plain text box I'd be happy. And the preview button brings up an odd looking preview thing. I hope it doesn't really look like that when I hit submit. ;)

edit: Apprently it did look that funny. Now I know what the "formatting" dropdown does. Disreguard that bit previously, except plain text ftw.

Plain text

I'm not sure if I want to disable the wysiwyg for the comments... there are some other editorsm that might be less clunky. This one does have some useless extras.

thanks.jon

link back the the XT2 site?

if you click on community from the XT2 site there is no link back to the XT2 site

appart from that this site seems exalent :)

Subz

good point

I'll think of a good place for the link... maybe in the header. Other usual links as well, like KVR.

Great Stuff!

:D Looking good!

I shall see what little crazy ext patches I have lurking in the depths of my ext-projects folder and upload them in due course...

Roll on eXT2

WoJ

nice

Had no crash, like the place, very nicely made!! I'll see what I can upload in the future. Thought of some self-made fieldrecordings, but as the quality is THIS poor compared to users with a ZONE or a M-audio-24bit-recorder, I'll think about it ;-)). Might just be too crappy, whereas I can use it nicely in my music.
Heads up, this is great, .jon!

Good idea!

I will add a section for samples. Field recordings rule, it's the athmosphere that needs to be captured, not the essence of high fidelity.

"personal files"

This is pretty neat. It's easy to use. And fun.

I was trying out some stuff with my "Personal files" and I noticed a couple of problems:

  • I couldn't upload a zip file even though it's listed as one of the allowed extensions.
  • I made a link to one of my files using the Browse Server button (like this) and the url came out wrong. If I manually make it use the <other> protocol, it works.

Attachment bug

I can't add a second attachment, get an unknown error instead. Need to look at these later.

thanks

I'll check those bugs, thanks for reporting them. I'll be working on this site more later this week.

Wow

This is AWESOME. I can't wait till the drum track is working. This is a lot easier to use than XT 1 :)
I'm waiting for a non beta release to purchase! :)

What's the procedure for large tutorials?

Should we create large tutorials (involving many screenshots, etc.) on seperate websites and link them in the Tutorial postings themselves? Or perhaps put them into ZIP files and attach them?

I just wonder whether the Tutorial bit could end up being incredibly long and scrollable with tons of stuff being loaded on one page?

It's all configurable

The Tutorials page, like all others show (currently) only a teaser of each post (called nodes in drupal lingo), and it's dead easy to change how the pages are rendered - full nodes, lists, whatever, and how many nodes per page. If the pages get too long I'll change it.

As what comes to the tutorials, there's a special pager tag that the author can input when he/she wants a page break.

I will implement a "print to pdf" button later, but having the tutorials in downloadable form is not a bad idea as the module might not be 100% compatible with all clients. Preferably pdf instead of zips with several files.

Aah, that sounds perfect. :)

Aah, that sounds perfect. :)

Looking good....

Looking forward to spam the site with crazy tunes, 80s rip-offs and whatever else strikes my fancy. When the bugs have been ironed out of course. :D

I'll be happy to write up some tutorials, time permitting. Which should give you all a solid introduction to the dangrish phenomenon, unless someone can be arsed to properly anglify what I write,

Looking good

Really like the general look of the site.

One thing though. Is the spanish translation for XT 1.4  listed?

I just could not find any link to it (or to the other translations for that matter ;)

Translation?

Thanks for the comment, but translations? Please explain more, are there translations of the energyXT?

Ooops! tipying too fast will

Ooops! tipying too fast will get you writing things the wrong way :)

I was talking about the getting started manual for XT1 There were several versions of it.

Potential security issue?

so, I check "my account" and hit personal files

Seems I can list all directories of the site (content stuff that is, not the system binaries)

But there is also a "delete" link at the right incl. posted .mp3:s of others

Now haven't dared to press the delete link yet - but if it works as I guess it should, then I guess

some malicous user can wipe the site in a few secs?

holy filewiper!

huge thanks, that was not intentional, only me & mods should be allowed to do that.

Can I edit your comments?

- 89

ehm

Seems one can edit anyone's comments ;D

---

 yup!!!

Yes, comments were editable by anyone

...as the preset options are a bit poor. Now you can't delete your own comments, but you can edit. Which might be fine, we'll see.

bug

I found a little bug, well sort of: you'd need to set a timeout on the login, my other pc was logged in 20 mins ago but then i shut it off and opened this one, and now im logged in twice.

Anyway this site is really nice.

timeouts are intentionally disabled

...due to the nature of the site. People might spend long times composing tutorials or editing manual pages, a timeout could wipe the work into bit heaven. I recommend logging out before shutting down the computer.

S'alright

S'alright

VERY nice I think!    Well

VERY nice I think!

Well done!

like it!!!

like the idea of this site very much!!!
